Congratulations to all members of Newport Pantomime and Musical Society, for once again keeping alive the magic of traditional Pantomime.
Well done to Director / Producer Rhys Perry, for taking the very traditional story of “Aladdin” and giving it a modern lift. As a self-confessed hater of the obligatory chase scene, I can honestly say I laughed, along with the audience, all the way through. It was very well done and enjoyed by all.
The comedy aspect of any Panto has got to be the hardest to achieve and sustain and the cast worked with the audience throughout with exceptional energy. Nathan Taylor as Widow Twankey wowed us with his every graceful movement and outrageous wardrobe, showing himself to be a Dame of considerable experience and an asset to the production.
The comedy duo of Nick Brimble and Ryan Salter were hilarious throughout the show and worked extremely well together. Along with the antics of Darian Thomas as Wishy Washy, they kept the audience totally involved and very entertained.
A beautiful Duet between Lee Rose Walsh [Aladdin] and Elysia Dimitrakis [Spirit of the Ring] was very much enhanced by the flight of the Magic Carpet illusion. The whole scene really was magical. It was also good to see a modern Genie played with great character by Lewis Arnold, a young man who could genuinely flex his muscles.
A first-time principle role for Brooke Seer as Princess Mandarin was performed with growing confidence and good characterisation. I am sure that this performance is just the beginning and we will see her again.
A formidable Empress [Shanika Siriwardena] was more than a match for Abanazar [Gerald Needs] and a lovely performance from Brooke Seer as the Hand Maiden [So Shy].
Congratulations to Choreographer Vanessa Clarke. Always a pleasure to watch the dance routines performed by an enthusiastic team and very much appreciated by the audience.
A special mention for the impressive set and the professional management shown by the back stage team, in the slick changes, especially in the activation of the Magic Carpet flight.
A memorable show as always from the whole company
