What better, on a cold dark night at the beginning of a new year, than a tuneful, colourful, fast paced pantomime!

FMTC’s Christmas show, Aladdin, contained all the traditional elements expected of the very British tradition of pantomime.  A young cast presented a fast moving version of Aladdin, It was amusing, had good well sung suitable songs and excellent dances from young tots and older dancers.  The fairly small cast all worked very well together … excellent team work. Jon O’Loughlin demonstrated a wonderful Widow Twanky… my goodness how he can work an audience! A very good Aladdin and Wishee Washy from Anna Lee and Beth Dombkowski were a joy to watch, with very good supporting roles from everyone else

The scenery, mostly cloths, lit very well, although there were times when the large stage appeared a bit underdressed and would have benefited with more props (particularly the treasure cave….there was no treasure; the treasure was the cast in glitzy costume.)The lighting was good and added atmosphere to the scenes and the costumes were very good, richly decorated and colourful. The sound balance was perfect and with the excellent band you could hear every word. I particularly enjoyed the flying carpet sequence from the UV to the flying….excellent. Well done production team, you should be well pleased with this attractive show.

“This was a quite different Alan Frayne ‘Aladdin’ script than I have seen before. Sadly it felt as though it had been given the politically correct treatment, ‘sanitized’ is a good word. Not very oriental and very formulaic, none of this was the responsibility of the energetic and talented production team and cast. Perhaps in our now ‘oversensitive’ world the true art of pantomime will be deemed out of place…!”

But very well done Frome MTC, yet another crowd pleasing entertainment, the audience loved it and the children in the audience were a joy to watch and it was so good to hear their laughter.
