Fusion’s Principal and Chorus line up did full justice to the lovely music and lyrics of Elton John and Tim Rice. Opening in a present-day museum a young couple were transported back to Ancient Egypt, becoming Radames, Captain of the Egyptian army and Aida, a Nubian slave. Adam Williamson (Radames) had a fine tenor voice; Megan McGarry (Aida) had the range to go from ‘belter’ to beautifully soft and gentle. Their relationship, from hostility to love, was well defined.

Tara Greene made good use of the comedy as Amneris, Princess of Egypt.  Zoser (Chief Minister of Egypt / Radames’ father) was played with authority by Cameron Mack.  Connor Richardson made an impressive Mereb (Ethiopian servant to Radames) as did Anna Lee Corbett as Nehebka (a Nubian slave girl) with excellent singing voices. Cameron Brady convinced as an ailing Pharoah.

Judgement Hall to Tomb was effected with tabs closing, obliterating any light, and the scene played in total darkness. When tabs opened we were back in the modern-day museum with Princess Amneris, a statue of a female Pharoah. The plot had travelled full circle.

In house costumes were nicely planned – long shift dresses for slaves; highly decorative robes for royals.

Sound was always clear; Lighting was beautiful, especially on the 3 silk pyramids. Simple rostra and steps were enhanced with effective props.

As Musical Director, Ian Milford conducted his 10 piece orchestra well - expertly supporting the cast throughout. Choreography was a little un-adventurous but Direction kept the action flowing with ease.
