Many people I have spoken to say ‘Oh Abigail’s Party….I love that play’, I will be honest, this was a first for me and I can see why people relate to it. Very much of its time the mismatched party guests at Beverly and Lawrence’s home clash in both status and expectations with the only thing in common being the road on which they live. The gorgeously glamorous Beverly moved around the living room setting as though this was the home she had created for herself and her stressed out spouse. Her comic timing was just right and I’m sure many of the audience wanted to join her as she poured yet another drink. Lawrence was suitably stressed and we were waiting for him to blow, sadly this was to be his undoing as he died right before our very eyes poor lamb. Angela naïve and desperate to be accepted and her bored hubby Tony were suitably ill matched and their relationships with Beverly grew as the play progressed, how could Angela think this woman was her ‘new’ friend is beyond comprehension. Poor Sue, we felt for this woman as she was plunged into the hell of this house party when she was just trying to give her daughter a little space. The uncomfortable pauses and moments of discomfort were well defined and a pin could drop throughout every one. Visually we were plunged into the 70’s cigarette smoking and all, this was a bit overpowering after a while and fresh air was welcomed in the foyer.  Strong attention to detail was evident and the company ethic was strong, I wonder what will be next to challenge this fledgling, enthusiastic company, I’m sure the Taunton audience can’t wait.
