‘A View from the Bridge’. A true story set in 1950s New York tells the story of Eddie Carbone’s growing obsession for his wife’s orphaned niece Catherine who the couple have brought up and the consequences it has for the family.
Chris Thomas as Alfieri the narrator and local lawyer, delivered a powerful and authoritative portrayal.
Anthony Cannon-Jones as Eddie Carbone gave a brilliant portrayal. The passion, frustrations, anger, turmoil, agony, jealousy, pride, and fanatical obsessions were all so graphically delivered.
Karl Whitcombe as Rudolpho was charming, charismatic, happy-go-lucky, and so animated and enthusiastic.
Stephen Lurvey as Marco was ideally suited to the role. His Character was spot on, and the accent was just enough to convince the audience that here was someone you would not wish to mess with.
Helen Harries as Beatrice had a real depth of understanding of the character and delivered this with such emotion, depth and captured the painful collapse of her marriage.
Sophie Rogers as Catherine gave a stellar performance and was a breath of fresh air. This part needed to start as an innocent young girl and grow into a young adult which Sophie handled with ease.
The small ensemble worked hard throughout this production ably supporting the main cast.
The accents were good and maintained well throughout the play. The fixed set worked well for this production, Lighting complimented the production. Costumes were appropriate to the period. The music choice suited this production and added to the overall feel.
This was an excellent production and Tracey Coleman is to be congratulated for her accomplished direction. A challenging piece both in terms of staging and emotional intensity and R.A.T.S has risen to it with great success,
Congratulations to everyone involved on a very good piece of theatre.
