A Touch of Danger is a thriller by Novelist and play write Francis Durbridge. The action takes place in the London apartment of novelist Max Tellington
In the opening scene we learn that the Evening Paper has a report that Max has died whilst visiting Munich in Germany. Only for him to appear at the end of the scene as if nothing has happened.
With a very wordy script, full of twists and suspicious characters, the plot was a little hard to follow and at times was more like a farce than a thriller. Max had inadvertently got involved an international terrorist group, that had MI5 and the CIA on their tail. And somehow they had planted a micro film in Max’s luggage.
As always P & P players had a very experience cast on stage. and the excellent team certainly worked hard to make the script believable, their characterisations were all very good, and the end product proved to be a very entertaining and enjoyable evening.
The pace of the delivery was a little slow occasionally, but generally, throughout, it very good and they managed to keep the attention of the appreciative audience.
The Barrington theatre stage allowed the space for the company to build a very nice looking set, that was well dressed . The director was able to make full use of it and it worked efficiently. Unfortunately, the many scene changes did sometimes seem slow ,but the back ground music was used to great effect to create atmosphere and added to the suspense.
It was very nice to see the Players back performing in the Barrington Theatre to a good size audience. I thought that they did themselves proud with this unusual thriller. . My congratulations go to all concerned
