Thank you so much for the invitation to your first theatre supper performance since the pandemic. We were made to feel very welcome by the front of house team and enjoyed meeting the people on our supper table. The style of the production worked very well with the performance in two parts with courses in between.
The show “A Song for All Seasons – a Musical Revue was inspired by the four seasons and was a mixture of songs; solos and company numbers interspersed with a few sketches. There were songs from classic musicals like Porgy and Bess and South Pacific from the thirties and forties, through shows of the Sixties and Seventies to more recent stage versions of Spring Awakening and Anastasia all giving different genres and singing styles.
Each of the singers performed a couple of solo songs, and the solos were a good mix of upbeat and more lyrical numbers with a variety of styles and tempos. The company numbers were a highlight with some beautiful close harmony singing demonstrating that the society has a strong group of singers whose voices blend well together.
The sketches and poems punctuated the musical numbers and brought some contrast to the production. The readers had clear diction, volume and projection and communicated well to the audience. The sketches were humorous with little twists to entertain. All in all, an enjoyable evening.
