‘A Slight Inconvenience’ is a minor distraction which throws one off track but is not a major issue. The cast of six ladies coped well with the situation set in the Reception area of an office.
Karen Jones as I’m in charge Carolyn, was perfectly cast as the Office Boss, dealing with all the various characters one might see including controversial Office Cleaner, Iris played by Sue Buckley together with Dora, Joan Smith and her noisy tea trolley, who appeared at inappropriate moments throughout the piece. The office typist Liz, was confidently played by Helen Garner, whose character was a thorn in Carolyn’s side, always popping into reception, to see what gossip she could glean. Shirley Betts as Lilian, Carolyn’s mother, gave us a vocal portrayal as she arrived on stage complete with shopping bags to the embarrassment of her daughter.
The arrival of a young pregnant April to see Carolyn’s boss was in the capable hands of Addie Davies, who gave us a strong solid performance and measured up to the overbearing Carolyn. It seemed the tables were turned and the banter between these two characters was admirable both giving excellent characterisations.
The set was basic but adequate. It was evident the piece was well rehearsed as script was swift, and there were no pauses or prompts.
Great little One Act Play played to a very high standard.
Thank you Colwyn Abbey Players for all your invites and wishing you every success in the future.
