Having been involved in the original production back in the late 80’s as ASM alongside the playwright himself, I know this play ‘Through and Through’ which incidentally was the original name of the play.
The play is set in the back garden of a valley terrace house, revolving around a pregnant bride on her wedding day and two brothers.
The seven cast members for this production had a variety of ages, talents and experiences. Everyone looked comfortable in their own roles, bouncing off each other from the very beginning as they came to terms with the dilemmas of the play. Good team work and worked well together.
The set was functional, stage props and costumes were authentic.
This was my first visit to a play performed by Billboard and for me the swapping of the Grandad character for Nana didn’t work as the script lends itself to a male character.
As a whole I thought the production needed more pace. Some jokes and punchlines were missed simply because they didn't seem to have registered as humour.
Well done to everyone involved at Billboard on your debut play.
