The stars were shining brightly on the back cloth and so were the members of the Polegate Drama Group who put on this delightful evening of musical entertainment.  Not only did they sing but they also treated us to some excellent choreography.

After the lively opening of Wilkommen from Cabaret we set off in the 1930s and 40s including Putting on the Ritz and the famous Trolley Song from Meet Me in St Louis.

The 1950s and 60s included a rendition of Reviewing the Situation - Fagin’s song from Oliver - sung and acted so well by one of the ladies in the company – she really was Fagin!  This group also included the lively Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat from Guys and Dolls – the guys and dolls performing this extract certainly did it proud!

The 1970s took us into the period of musical theatre when what one might call more risqué offerings had started and included two songs from The Rocky Horror Show – Sweet Transvestite and Time Warp.  The company certainly proved that they were up to performing many different types of the genre.

After an interval during which refreshments were enjoyed in cabaret fashion we were taken into the 1980’s with songs from Les Miserables,  Aspects of Love, Miss Saigon and Phantom of the Opera, including a very moving rendition of Music of the Night.

The 1990s, 2000s and 2010s onwards followed with a very good selection from these years, ending with Goodbye from The Producers. The whole company were in very good voice and the choreography as mentioned above was excellent.   They looked good as well, with the chorus in black with purple tops and those singing solos appropriately dressed for the part.

As always, so much work is done backstage and front of house, including the ever welcome refreshments.

Nicola Cullen is to be congratulated for her direction, together with her team, for bringing this second Musical Extravaganza to Polegate.
