No-one could accuse Whitkirk Arts Guild of resting on their not inconsiderable laurels by just presenting a straight forward concert - this group relish going that extra mile to bring their patrons something different and challenging.

This time, they chose to explore music from well-known (and not so well-known) films - their choice was varied and carefully put together. The Director/Choreographer Charlotte Hodge and Musical Director Louise Norbury-Robinson, had obviously worked hard to find music to suit their talented company - their usual dedication to detail shone through the entire evening, much to the delight of the audience, sitting at tables with complimentary popcorn to complete an interesting ambience.

With 16 musical numbers in Act 1 and 15 in Act 2, the company were kept on their toes to hold a brisk pace - I particularly enjoyed the 'cups' number from the film 'Perfect Pitch' involving eye-watering trickery with plastic cups. The a capella singing of 'Let it Go' from the animated film 'Frozen' was of a very high standard. In Act 2, I would like to make mention of 'The Rose' from the film of the same name, well-sung, and the James Bond section; the 'Skyfall' number excellently performed.

As always, the technical crew, David Battersby, Adam Moore and Ian Thomson, had pulled out all the stops to bring some stunning visual and lighting effects which complimented the production.

I would only pick up on one aspect of the production in that more solos and duets could have been accommodated - at times, it came a little repetitive using the full chorus, although this does not diminish their talented appearance!

Lastly, I must say that every effort is made to give the group's audiences entertainment of the highest quality, from the performers to front-of house, costume and stage management and all who are involved; it is so important - many congratulations!
