It is always intriguing to see how the director will create a world on the sliver of Roadwater stage and through thoughtful staging and well positioned furnishings the piece was brought to life with vibrancy. Again Roadwater’s design team pulled out all the stops and created the perfect drawing room of Little Paddocks in sleepy Chipping Cleghorn, in fact attention to detail ran throughout this production, right down to the seamed silk stockings of the beautifully turned out ladies of the house. The ladies portrayed the perfect prim and proper butter wouldn’t melt world of Miss Christie and the gentleman supported them admirably, each character was nicely drawn and totally believable, although I would have lost Mitzi’s wig! We have an expectation that Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple will have a certain style and we were not disappointed in anyway by this slightly dotty lovely, the type of lady we would certainly call our favourite Auntie. The audience were highly attentive and audible gasps were heard as the truth behind the mystery unfolded, and everyone leaving the village hall was commenting on how it was a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a warm spring evening, Somerset’s own answer to Chipping Cleghorn…great fun.
