I have seen several productions of this Agatha Christy play, it also seems to be repeated frequently on the television and it has never really been a favourite of mine. So I will be the first to admit that was a little disappointed when I saw P & P’s advance publicity, because I am always looking to see something different. However this excellent production directed by, the very experienced, Pat Donavon certainly exceeded my expectations. It felt refreshing and I really found it very enjoyable, the direction was, in my opinion, faultless throughout. This play suits the Barrington Theatre Stage, and the very nice looking set gave the cast plenty of room to move about, so they were not on top of each other. I felt comfortable with each member of the cast and whilst no one was outstanding, they were all very good and jelled together well. The pace of the deliver throughout was about right, never once did I think that it was to slow.

There are a couple of points to note. There was a door key but no key holes in the doors, which were so important to the story line and secondly, surely someone could have moved the cake trolley that got knocked by the curtain in a scene change, and then left in the middle of the stage during the following scene, much to the amusement of the audience who could see the hollow in the back of the cake. Never the less, a very enjoyable evenings entertainment.
