A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM by William Shakespeare covers the events surrounding the marriage of Theseus, Duke of Athens, to Hippolyta. There’s the four lovers: Hermia, Helena, Demetrius and Lysander.  And we also have the Fairies, Puck and the Rude Mechanicals and you have everything you need for an evening of comedy and fantasy.

The set was impressive with fantastic detail, especially the forest. The revolving seat for Titania was ingenious, gorgeously decorated and very effective. The props were well used by the cast.

The make-up and hair was appropriate throughout.  I loved Puck’s dazzling green lipstick.

The costumes were fabulous, ranging from gorgeous regal gowns and tunics to floaty fairy dresses and basic outfits for the Mechanicals.  They were all in keeping with the characters and well thought out.

The lighting was excellent, especially the cloud floating across the moon.

The story was clear and full of fun and was told with panache and humour. This was a very ambitious project and Brian and Jill Gillett as Directors also took on the roles of Theseus and Hippolyta and they are to be congratulated for the high standard achieved throughout the evening.   It was a theatrical treat and kept the audience engaged throughout.
