A Grand Night For Singing, the showcase for the works of Rodgers and Hammerstein conceived by Walter Bobbie is a wonderfully tuneful affair. It uses over 30 tunes in a musical revue format.
The small cast of two actors [Keiran Pryor & Henley Cegielski] and three actresses [Zoe Lauren Phillips, Sarah Knight & Megan Jones] gave excellent performances with the wide range of music on offer. The main cast we’re ably supported by a full ensemble. There were many strong harmony sections from all cast members and many of the numbers in the production featured some acting and/or dancing – it was pleasing to see some real chemistry between the performers which more than aided their performances.
Nathan Jones’s musical direction kept the pace and intensity in the music but also gave freedom for the principles to express the subtler characteristics or comic moods.
The production was attractively costumed and the staging worked well, direction & musical direction were very good . Set, lighting and sound complimented this production.
This was a high quality production with the whole company rising extremely well to the challenge.
Congratulations to all involved.
