The Forum, being a farce, could so easily turn into a pantomime but this production had it pitched just right from the minute Pseudolus showed his head around the curtain, ( the only member of the cast I will single out for a special mention). He was never off stage and set the tone for the show right through to the final curtain. It fell on his shoulders to set the pace that is so, so important for this show and he did that without a doubt! We (the audience) were off into a real fantasy “forget all the problems outside” kind of show.
Without doubt the director was very fortunate to have had such a strong cast as this. I could not fault one of them; they all were in character and enjoyed themselves so much I wished I was on stage with them, such was their energy and vigour.
The song “House of Marcus Lycus” was especially well delivered and was a great hit with the audience. I was very impressed the way “The Proteans “were portrayed and done with such style.
The choreographer is to be congratulated as there was some really good movement. The 9 piece orchestra made a great sound and not over done as can so often happen; they were a treat to listen to.
As for the Director Iain Douglas my heartfelt congratulations on a job well done ….who needs to go the West End when there is such talent on the doorstep. Along with the rest of the very appreciative and hugely entertained audience I enjoyed a night that will be long remembered. Well done to all who were involved in any way with this most entertaining, zestful and slick performance.
