The programme of Christmas carols, secular music for the festive season combined with sketches and humorous readings certainly gave a good start to the forthcoming festivities.
Jasmine Gillespie and Marilyn Sykes are to be congratulated for their hard work in putting together such a varied choice of music which was appropriate to the season and performed so well by the soloists and chorus. The singing was controlled with excellent harmony and much detail given to the quality of presentation without the usual “disco cacophony” of ultra loud sound which distorts the music and can spoil the content of the programme.
Sue Gent, the director had obviously worked hard to keep all the action simple yet very effective. Her efforts were aided by a very good set comprising of strategically placed bowers suitably dressed with tinsel, holly, baubles and other Christmas decorations. These were well lit and gave a peaceful and joyous air to the entire staging.
Everything about this show is to be commended including the seating of the audience at tables and being served with seasonal refreshments by the cast during the interval.
An excellent start to the Christmas Festival.
