It was great to see two neighbouring local amateur theatrical groups (KAOS & The Chameleons ADS) working so well together on this joint venture - Charles Dickens' Christmas ghost story. The classic story was very cleverly adapted by Robert Spolander and Radnor Everett to produce a show somewhere between a drama and a pantomime. The story was skilfully abridged and modernised with relevant and seasonal songs added along the way. The central storyline remained true to the original prose written by Dickens in 1843. The miserly Scrooge still makes his money by moneylending but his assistant is a single mother - Bobbie Cratchit whose only son requires expensive medical treatment she is unable to afford. This rather gruesome story with ghosts and tragedy, without fairies - good or bad - may seem a little heavy for the younger audience members but a delightfully happy Christmas tree and a talented hard working cast managed to create a joyful Christmas entertainment which thrilled all age groups.
