The drama company in the sleepy Suffolk village of Stratford are struggling to survive and the committee decide to hire a Hollywood Actor to play the part of King Lear in their next production in an attempt attract a larger audience in a bid to save their theatre. A faded Hollywood action hero, Jefferson Steel, having been persuaded by his agent to accept role, arrives in England thinking that he is going to be starring in a production in Stratford on Avon the home of Shakespeare.

This was an excellent comedy that had me aching with laughter throughout. As the egotistical Hollywood actor, clashed with the local amateur thespians, who were having none of his prima donna demands.  Anyone who has been involved in the world of Amateur Theatre may have seen the scenarios of this wonderful play, acted out in front of them, many times.

The seven cast members all gave excellent, and totally believable portrayals of their characters. Their delivery and timing was very good and the odd, first night prompt, did not spoil the flow. Although there was lots of laughter there was still light and shade to the performance and I found it very emotional and touching in places.

I think most companies in the Bournemouth area know that I am a big fan of comedy and I am known for my laughter ringing through the venue. Personally I think this was one of the best productions that have seen P & P players perform. I could have happily sat through it again. Well done to all concerned.
