9 to 5 is often referred to as the Dolly Parton Musical is based on the 1980's film of the same name. I was particularly looking forward to this, Directed by John Chalkley who did such a splendid job with Addams Family the previous year, I am very pleased to say that i was not let down.

The set was a simple affair, this in itself lent to the effective use of props and thereby keeping the scene changes down time to an absolute minimum (well done to Emalea Snow and her crew) most of the changes being done by the cast themselves. The set was equally backed up by some very effective lighting and the sound was good (even given for the fact that The Point is traditionally difficult!)

The band struck up the overture and MD Gem Tunley and her ten piece band were producing a very good sound and at quite a pace too. The choreography by Sarah Earnshaw was of a very high standard, each member of the cast full engaged and always with confidence and a smile. They were here to enjoy themselves, this certainly came over into the auditorium, they were here to entertain, and we the audience certainly were. They were on point, in tune and in time. I can only imagaine the work that John Chalkley as Director has put in. I would think that they were fun rehearsals to be involved with.

There were some notable performances from the principals here too.  Carrie Bellett as Violet, Ellen Goggin as Doralee (the Dolly Parton role) and Angharad Morgan as Judy, All played their respective roles with huge aplomb, all believable with great diction, fantastic vocals and, as with the cast, full of confidence. Rory Blincow as Franklyn Hart, the misogyinistic protagonist lead role did so with a great deal of humour, and again the diction was clear and every word understood. Suzi Dove though was hilarious throughout, a joy to watch as the lovelorn Roz, very funny, keep it up!

Its great to see such high standards from SMS, certainly since their return from Covid they have delivered some amazing shows. All at a very high standard. Bravo SMS, Looking forward already to Bonnie and Clyde in October.
