9 TO 5 is a musical with a most complicated and somewhat difficult plot to follow at times and the music is rather repetative, the 9 to 5 song being the only really well known number. The story centres around three women who work for a large corporation known as Consolidated and the department executive Franklin Hart. This show requires some very strong acting and good singing voices which this production had in abundance, Jane Griffin (Violet Newstead) was brilliant as the long suffering office manager she acted and sung with complete assurance throughout the production. Melanie Stephen (Doralee Rhodes) played the Dolly Parton type role with great style a very fine interpretation of the part as the much maligned personal secretary. The trio of girls was completed by Jill Bedford (Judy Bernly) she was very convincing as the very naive new office secretary with no previous office work experience. Chris Hall (Franklin Hart) was every inch the arrogant sexist executive with a very lustful intent for Doralee again a very strong performance. Janet Peace (Roz Keith) was a most energetic personal assistant who had the hots for Hart another most convincing performance. The remaining roles were all well cast and the show as a whole was well directed and choreographed no mean task as 9 TO 5 is no easy show to produce.
