As I have said before, this musical requires a more “country” style of singing and this Society pulled it off. It also has numerous scene changes and having seen the stage at this theatre I know how limited they are for space, but this was very well staged and the stage crew moved it quietly and efficiently. Well done to all conerned.

The three female leads, Debbie Apollonio (Violet) Jodi Bennett (Doralee) and Fern O’Brien- Grant (Judy), were very well cast and their voices blended very well in the trios, especially in “Shine Like the Sun” and “I Just Might.”

Mr Franklin Hart Jnr (Iain Scott) was as sleazy as we have come to expect (the character, not Iain). Although the number “Here for You” was set in a relatively small area, it was beautifully moved and he gave it his all, a great comedy moment, and that along with Roz (Sally Bevan) singing “Hart to Hart” made us all laugh. The minor characters all gave good performances and the duet between Joe (Joey Giles) and Violet was a lovely tender moment, which I enjoyed.

The lack of male chorus was cleverly covered by delivering some of the lines to off stage, I have to say that I was surprised that the males playing some of the minor roles were not more involved with ensemble work, but having said that the ensemble work was very good.

This show had everyone leaving with a smile and humming and, after all, what more do you want to prove you had a good show.
