In my opinion P&P had made the perfect choice of show for their multitalented company when they announced that they were going to perform 42nd Street at Poole Lighthouse Theatre. I was looking forward to seeing the show and after seeing comments on social media I had high expectations

Without a doubt the company certainly delivered. I thought that each and every member of the gave their all. The major leading roles were all excellent, each had their own outstanding little moments in the production, but leading lady Rhiannon Horne (Peggy Sawyer) was magnificent throughout

The set was kept simple to avoid long scene changes, although sometimes it was a little too dark, It was very effective it worked well The choreography together with wonderful sparkling costumes look superb, I was amazed at the number of fast changes that many of the performers had. Well done to all back stage.

Sadly, sound problems throughout second half very nearly ruined the show. During one duet, the microphones were obviously not on, and yet immediately after the song had finished we heard very loud, back stage, talking over the PA which brought laugher to the audience and a look of horror on the faces of performers on stage. I would have thought that the MD would have recognised that there were sound problems and therefore could have held the orchestra down to compensate. Unfortunately this was not the case and although they sounded magnificent they blew the excellent hardworking cast off the stage and  much of the chorus singing was in audible.

I went to the theatre see P&P perform “42nd Street” not to hear a Big Band!  This was yet another case of where the paid professionals spoilt what should have been an outstanding show. I might have left the theatre singing, but it was not the high I was expecting because I felt disappointed and sorry for the hardworking members of the company.
