In Your face Theatre Seaham (Youth) always put on a good show and, fresh from their success in the previous week’s NODA Performance award’s, they were back at it again staging their youth concert. Twenty-Seven youngsters with a lot of talent both collectively and individually gave their audience a wonderful evening’s entertainment.

Compering the concert were two of the society’s regulars Nathan Johnson and Aimee Curtis, both with their individual style and both talented in their own right as we were to establish later on with Nathan’s singing of ‘You Know we can’t go Back’ whilst he accompanied himself on electric guitar; meanwhile Aimee showed her versatility isn’t confined to comedy with a haunting portrayal of ‘Maybe This Time’ from Cabaret.

Like all concerts it was an opportunity to allow people to showcase their talents and all took up the challenge to great effect. With Twenty-Five choral numbers, individual and group numbers it would prove difficult to list them all but be assured that all the youth had their place in the sun at some stage in the evening.

The younger element of Katie Clarke, Amelie Corner, Charlotte Davison, Sophia Gibson, Evie Gray, Ruby Kitson, Rue Riley & Chloe Rudd were featured in the lovely ‘Once upon a December’ from Asastasia; a slightly older group of Aimee Curtis, Lydia Franklin, Lily Mason, Rebecca Moore, Lexi Neasham, Sidney Rain, Abigale Slade & Romy Wilkinson featured in the iconic song ‘Mamma Mia’ – both to great effect.

The concert also included humorous sketches and monologues – including the ‘I’m Nearly Eight’ monologue from Blood Brothers expertly delivered by Harris Miller who also was involved in the extremely funny ‘Seaham Olympic Swimming trials’ sketch directed by Charlie Younger also featuring Orie Coulton-Goodwin, Aimee Curtis, Charlotte Davison, Bailey Horn, Nathan Johnson, Lexi Neasham & Abigale Slade. I laughed out loud at the antics of the ‘Synchronised swimming’.

The penultimate ensemble piece of ‘Seize the Day’ was choreographed by Steph Peacock to great effect; as was the choreography to ‘Hard Knock Life’ by Rebecca Moore (who also showed her vocal talents in ‘Don’t Wanna Be Here’.)

A fabulous rendition of ‘Wind Beneath my Wings’ by Francesca Lundie raised the roof as did young William Hare singing ‘Where is Love’ from Oliver.

Also featuring in the full chorus singing were Charley Foley, Joel Oakley, Evie Thompson,
Kaitlyn Todd & Danny Wilson.

The cast’s camaraderie and love for each other and their society was very much visible during their finale number of ‘Don’t Stop Believing’. The North contains a lot of raw talent waiting to be nurtured and IYFTS are amongst the vanguard doing just that. Well Done on a highly entertaining evening of fun and musical enjoyment.
