Waterside Musical Society are 50 years old this year so they wanted to celebrate with a concert featuring songs and information that was around in 1968 when they formed. This made for an interesting evening of song, comedy and entertainment.

During the concert different musical directors took over sections of songs, and the cast introduced the selection of music with interesting facts. We were treated to Food Glorious Food from ‘Oliver’, Look to the Rainbow from ‘ Finian’s Rainbow’, and two of my favourites Hushabye Mountain and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Along with lots of popular songs of the time. Lots of the cast had solos, duets and trios too many to mention, however, I really liked The Balled of Bonnie and Clyde featuring Chris Talbot & Dean Attard, and The Good the Bad and the Ugly was very clever ensemble number.

Act two started with a traditional Entrance and March of the Peers from ‘Iolanthe’ one of the society’s first shows, proving they have a strong ensemble sound. We then had songs from ‘Fiddler on the Roof’, Mrs Robinson and Lily the Pink and another great selection from the ‘Jungle Book’.  A lot of hard work had gone into the evening and everyone there had a great night. Well done to you all.
