The Society this year celebrates its one hundredth birthday!!  Founded in 1918 – originally under the title ‘St. John’s Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society’ – the society is one of very few in the country, certainly in the north, to have  performed musicals, plays, extravaganzas etc., continuously since its inauguration (other than during the war years) for this length of time.   Where many societies have sadly closed their stage doors either through financial hardship or lack of membership, we have worked hard to make sure amateur theatre stays alive in our area.   Every year becomes a struggle financially as every year the cost of putting a production onto the stage increases and we rely entirely on the support of both our loyal members and our audiences.

To celebrate this special anniversary we are to hold a ‘Centenary Celebration Dinner/Dance’ at Healds Hall Hotel, Liversedge, on Saturday evening 8th September, 2018.   Tickets for this event are available to purchase.   The cost of tickets for this special event is £30 each and full payment will be required at time of purchasing tickets.   We are hoping you will all want to celebrate this special event.   The menu for the dinner will be available in advance to those attending but be assured it is a very good and varied menu.

We have been very successful for this, our special year, to have obtained two of Sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s most popular musicals – ‘The Phantom Of The Opera – Youth Production’ and ‘Evita’.     Our youth section (S.A.Y.S) were thrilled when they heard we had received permission to perform ‘The Phantom Of The Opera’ – youth production.   This is a musical not yet released for senior amateur productions but with the talent of the young people involved in our production this should prove a wonderful experience and hope that you will support them by coming along to see this - 13th-15th July at Cleckheaton Town Hall commencing at 7.15pm and 2.15pm Saturday matinee.
