Rehearsals will start from Tuesday 6th January. Rehearsals take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Harrow Arts Centre, and Saturday mornings in Kenton. The play is directed by Lynette Alston.
About the play:
The Height of the Storm is an emotionally intense and beautifully elusive story of André and Madeleine who have been in love for over fifty years. One weekend, as their daughters visit, something feels unusual. An anonymous bunch of flowers arrives. A woman from the past turns up, but who is she? And why does André feel like he isn’t there at all? Reality shifts as the play reveals itself - the only certainty is the love between André and Madeleine.
Written by Florian Zeller who also wrote The Father and The Son, the style of the play is naturalistic, and set in modern day. The Times described the West End’s 2018 production, starring Jonathan Pryce and Eileen Atkins, as ‘Deeply moving. A play that takes us to the edge of what it is to love’. The Father was recently turned into a well-reviewed film with Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Coleman.
About the roles available:
Both roles are substantial with strong acting moments.
ANNE: more sensible, practical and possibly older daughter of Andre and Madeleine, playing age 30 to 45. She has come to visit her parents to help with organising their affairs. She is rational and pragmatic, the kind of person who manages others and gets things done, but has moments where she deeply feels the emotion of what is happening.
ELISE: more flighty, possibly younger daughter of Andre and Madeleine, playing age 25 to 40. She has poor taste in men and a slightly chaotic life, she doesn't quite know where her life is going yet. Like Anne, she comes to visit her parents to help but also because she feels she should, bringing her latest boyfriend who may have an ulterior motive for being there. She is less pragmatic, more emotionally driven, and she and Anne don't always see eye to eye.
