Evan Hansen, a socially anxious high school senior, becomes entangled in a misunderstanding after a classmate, Connor Murphy, takes his own life with a letter Evan wrote to himself found in Connor’s pocket. Mistaken as Connor’s close friend, Evan comforts the grieving Murphy family by fabricating a friendship that never existed, and his lie quickly grows into a movement that brings him unexpected popularity, love, and belonging. As the truth unravels, Evan must face the consequences of his choices and confront what it truly means to be seen, accepted, and honest about who you are.
