Calendar Girls

"The flowers of Yorkshire are like the women of Yorkshire. Every stage of their growth has its own beauty, but the last phase is the most glorious…then very quickly they all go to seed”

We are delighted to announce that ‘Calendar Girls’ will be part of our upcoming season. This life-affirming and bittersweet comedy celebrates friendship, courage and the extraordinary things that can happen when ordinary women dare to do something a little extraordinary.

When Annie’s beloved husband John dies of leukaemia, she and her best friend Chris, members of the Knapely Women’s Institute, decide to honour his memory by raising money for a new settee in the hospital relatives’ room. Their plan? To persuade their fellow WI members to pose nude for a rather unconventional charity calendar, with the help of amateur photographer Lawrence. What begins as a simple local fundraising idea soon captures the heart of the nation, who take these women to their heart and they find themselves at the centre of unexpected fame. But as media attention grows and their lives change overnight, Annie and Chris must discover whether their friendship can withstand the pressures that come with it.

Full of warmth, humour and wonderfully wry Yorkshire dialogue, Calendar Girls is a touching and uplifting story about friendship, community and the courage to step outside of your comfort zone… but above all how it feels to be a woman in the most glorious phase of life!

A fantastic start to our 79th season!

Matinee performance on Sunday 20th.
