The play
The Importance of Being Earnest, in my opinion, is an all time classic. Its social commentary, wit and hilarious dialogue still holds up today and reads like a fresh piece of theatre despite being premiered in 1895. It tells the story of Jack Worthing and his good chum Algernon Moncrieff. They are self-centred, vain and determined to find ‘love’, or more accurately a wife. They try to navigate their pursuits whilst facing the fearsome Lady Bracknell, the demands of society and the stupidity of their own choices when deciding to identify themselves as being called ‘Earnest’ (which is quite important). I want to inject this comedy of manners with modern styling whilst keeping the essence of what makes this play so special. I’m looking for a committed cast to bring this play and my vision for it alive…so I hope to see you on Sunday 29th June at 2:30pm
