In an attempt to revive his reputation, Steele accepts what he believes is a leading role as King Lear at a prestigious British theatre. However, to his dismay, he discovers that he has actually signed up to perform with a small amateur dramatic society in the quiet English village of Stratford St. John, not Stratford-upon-Avon.
