Worcester Musical Theatre Company was founded 48 years ago as Midland Musical Theatre Group (MMTG) by Robert Wilson MBE, and performed mainly at the Malvern Festival Theatre for the ensuing 34 years.

In 2011 the name was changed to Worcester Musical Theatre Company and the performance venue moved to The Swan in Worcester, where our 2024 show “Stand by Me” will be our thirtinth since this renaissance.

We are a small company with around 100 members, onstage and backstage. We are  very active with shows that are of a unique character. Although the cast is amateur, we have professional musicians, choreographers, sound and lighting engineers, hairdressers and beauticians and superb costumes, so this is amateur musical theatre of the highest quality, and our 2016 show “Walking on Sunshine” won NODA’s best musical award for the West Midlands Region.

Although WMTC is a registered charity in its own right, we like to support another charity every year; in 2017 it was Motor Neurone Disease Association with connections to our own membership, and the year before that Guide Dogs. Our 2014 show commemorated the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War with a very moving “Remembrance” section involving the whole company including children and dancers, and with buglers from the Salvation Army and standard bearers from The Royal British Legion and over 100 people onstage.

Our 2018 show “A Night to Remember” will reprise this section to celebrate the centenary of the ending of the First World War, and will include a special matinee performance on Sunday 11 November 2018, the centenary of the signing of The Armistice.

The nominated charities for this show will be West Mercia Womens  Aid and New Hope Worcester, two really worthy charities

Rehearsals, initially on Mondays and later on Wednesdays and some Sunday afternoons, are at Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club.

Auditions are at the beginning of Apri each year, anf first rehearsal is the last April and curtain up is on 12th November for a sixshow run including tfinisnishin on the Saturday Evening 16th November including a the Mayors Charity Gala Perfomace on Friday 15th November.

Rehearsals are demanding but fun, and members also enjoy a lively social scene, and those planning to party during show week would be well advised to consider taking some vacation from work.
