Utopia Unlimited

Utopia Unlimited is a local, Inclusive, not-for-profit youth theatre company based in the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales, working with young people aged 8–21 who share a love of performance.

The company specialises in producing, rehearsing, and performing musical theatre, with a particular focus on the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. Projects are often developed within a relatively short rehearsal timeframe, allowing young people to gain performance experience quickly while working towards high-quality outcomes. The creative team brings extensive experience of working in youth theatre and supporting young performers across a wide range of abilities and interests.

Utopia Unlimited runs a monthly rehearsal and social programme. Sessions include a structured singing and performance workshop, followed by a relaxed social element where young people can watch a Gilbert and Sullivan production, explore opera and musical theatre, and enjoy spending time together in a supportive setting.

Alongside rehearsals, the company organises theatre trips, workshops with professional practitioners, and public performances, all designed to inspire curiosity, confidence, and a deeper understanding of theatre. Recent activities have included attending professional opera productions, such as Opera North’s Ruddigore, and discussing how professional work can inform youth performance.

Utopia Unlimited is a member-led organisation, with activities shaped by the ideas, interests, and ambitions of the young people involved. Members can take part as soloists, chorus members, musicians, or as part of the backstage and technical team, with flexibility to explore different roles at their own pace.

The company is committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where young people can build skills, confidence, and friendships. Utopia Unlimited holds the Derbyshire LGBT+ Rainbow Allies Accreditation, reflecting its commitment to equality and respect. Young people from all backgrounds are welcomed, and safeguarding is a core priority - all staff are DBS checked, with registered chaperones present at all sessions.

Utopia Unlimited aims to nurture a lasting love of theatre and music, supporting young people not only as performers, but as confident, creative individuals who feel a strong sense of belonging within the arts and their local community.
