Our Vision

“From life, to page, to stage."

We are a community of inspired playwrights creating original writing for theatre, including dramatic pieces and organising and directing performances.

As a group we endeavour to blend tradition with bold experimentation, bringing authentic stories from page to stage that resonate and inspire.

We are also strive to welcome other creatives to our community and work with local organisations who are dedicated to enriching the creative fabric of  Chichester and the surrounding areas.

Our Journey

We met while attending a playwriting course in 2024 at Chichester Festival Theatre, led by professional playwright, Lucy Flannery, as part of LEAP (Learning, Education and Participation). The course focused on developing our writing and creating original work, and through it we came to know each other and each other’s plays. Our shared enthusiasm for seeing our work performed led us to form The Play Weavers.

Planning began in the Chichester festival Theatre café as we prepared an entry for the Chichester Fringe 2025. We were accepted into the two-week festival and staged our first show, Kaleidoscope, at 104 in The Hornet, Chichester. The evening sold out, with paying audience of over 100

We now hope to fill the new CFT venue, The Nest, on June 13th 2026 with our new show, Tapestry, as part of the Chichester Fringe, and being the closing show of this event.

The show consists of 6 original short plays with a wide diversity of plots and human drama, for a performance time of about 2 hours.

The show has sold out over 4 weeks ahead of the evening.

On November 28th 2026, The Play Weavers return to The Nest with a Christmas themed show, ’Baubles', featuring 6 original short plays, which will bring the highs and not so highs of the Christmas experience to the stage!
