The Marco Players - Providing Bolton with a space to PERFORM for over 40 years

We are a voluntary, Bolton-based amateur theatre group founded in October 1981. Our first production, J.B. Priestley’s When We Are Married, was performed at Chorley Old Road Methodist Church. Our name, The MARCO Players, comes from the merger of two local amateur theatre groups, St Margaret’s Church (MAR) on Lonsdale Road and Chorley Old Road (CO) Methodist Church, both in Smithills. Now in our 44th year, we continue to perform a variety of plays in venues across Bolton, following the loss of our former home at the Old Methodist Church.

For over four decades, we have provided opportunities for local people of all ages to take part in amateur theatre, whether on stage, backstage, or as part of our loyal audience, alongside regular social events such as music and quiz nights, magic shows and nature walks. Our theatre productions range from classic comedies and dramas to new works, reaching around 1,500 people each year. We are also proud to support charitable causes, having donated almost £3,000 to local and national charities over the past three years. The MARCO Players has brought creativity, entertainment, and friendship to countless Bolton residents, and we remain deeply proud of our history and community role.
