Founded in 1924, The Green Room Theatre, Wilmslow is one of the oldest Amateur Dramatic Societies in the UK. In the beginning, we were “strolling players” performing wherever a venue could be found. For over 25 years we have performed Shakespeare and other classic plays at the Gawsworth Hall open air summer season.
In 1989, after a superb fund raising effort, a Victorian cottage and an old shirt factory on Chapel Lane in Wilmslow were converted into a modern theatre. After 65 years on the road the company had its own home.
The Green Room Theatre has seating capacity for up to 102 and adopts a traverse seating arrangement on both sides of the acting space and on occasions on 3 and all 4 sides of the stage to create a complete round. We also provide access and facilities for wheelchair users.
Our programme of productions is chosen to provide a varied and challenging season of 5 to 6 plays each season, using innovative and adventurous stage designs, and is well supported by local people.
