There is a long tradition of successful amateur dramatics at The Salterton Drama Club. Since the group was founded in 1938, it has gone from strength to strength, finally acquiring its own theatre - the Salterton Playhouse - in 1970. The Playhouse is a large wooden building set next to the stream in Meadow Lane, and offers raked seating and full facilities for approximately 80 patrons.
Although the Club is relatively small, levels of enthusiasm and commitment are very high indeed. As a result, we are currently able to stage four high quality plays a year, with each production running for six performances - Monday to Friday evening and a Saturday matinee.
We are always glad to welcome individuals who are interested in acting and directing, although these attributes are not a requirement of membership, and there are plenty of opportunities for non-acting members to become involved in a variety of backstage and front of house activities.
The club also has a busy Social Programme, which does much to maintain the integrity of the group during the periods between productions. This involves events such as social play readings, theatre visits to both local amateur and professional productions, barbecues, treasure hunts, skittle evenings and so on. The Salterton Drama Club is nothing if not social, and new members can be assured of a warm welcome.
