Colyton Theatre Group - entertaining the community in Colyton

Colyton Theatre Group was formed in 1975 and has been going strong ever since.  Our Constitution states that: ‘The aim of the Group shall be to produce plays, etc. for the entertainment and education of the public and to foster interest and ability in the performing arts’. That is indeed the case but it does sound a little serious and formal. We like to think that, while pursuing these worthy aims, we also provide an opportunity for people to have fun, to get together with old friends and make new ones. We want people to come along and share their skills and perhaps to discover skills they did not know they had. Our aim is to involve and entertain the community. We present at least one play a year and our pantomimes are always popular. There is a Summer School for young people where they learn drama skills and create a performance. We frequently take part in local Drama Festivals, always come up with an entertainment for Colyton Carnival week and we join in with the Carnival Procession. For those who enjoy taking part in theatre and plays, without becoming involved in a stage performance, we have the Play Reading Group. This is a friendly group that meets monthly from September to April for a read-through of a selection of interesting plays. We endeavour to support other Colyton events such as the Monmouth Rebellion Day in 2015 where the town came together for a very special occasion which was of benefit to all. There are so many ways you could become involved: as actors, directors, musical and pantomime directors, front of house, stage managers, wardrobe assistants, prompts or with computing and advertising skills. The more members we have, the more we can offer and it is a good way to meet new friends.
