Alvechurch Dramatic Society has been performing in the Village Hall since 1948 (not continuously!)
We are a small, friendly group, and we always welcome new members. As well as acting, there are opportunities to get involved with backstage, set design and construction, sound and lighting, and front of house.
We put on two main plays per year, in April and November; plus occasional ‘one-off’ performances such as Murder Mystery Nights and Variety shows. We sometimes even venture out of the Village Hall to perform at other village events and further afield to local theatre festivals.
Our repertoire is broad, including comedies, thrillers, dramas, and not forgetting our (in)famous self-written pantomimes! In recent years we have staged peformances of plays by the likes of Oscar Wilde, Francis Durbridge, Alan Ayckbourn and Noel Coward, not to mention a well-received adaptation of Dickens’ Great Expectations. We have won awards from NODA for our version of The Importance of Being Earnest and our pantomime Orphan Belle and the Last Circus.
When rehearsing a play (January-April and September-November), we meet in the Hall from 8pm-10pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Feel free to drop in and meet us during these times! During the summer, we run a series of social events, including theatre trips, skittles and games evenings.
