Another sure fire hit from this very talented group of young people, written by the Chairman of the company, Steve Groves.

The story is set just after the Second World War, when holidays meant a seedy guest house or a week-long stay in a caravan.  Enter Reg Pontling and his idea to create a holiday camp, Pontlings, where everything is on hand and you have entertainment all day long.  The story shows us the build up to the opening and the first week in operation and also follows two families, The Smiths and The Browns and their stay at the camp.  Along the way we meet the entertainment staff, the plumbers, the head of cleaning, the Pontling family and of course the guests.

The set, though minimal was effective and the band played well, with the music being piped in from another room.  This worked for the company who sang really well with some nice harmonies.  I really enjoyed the music from the 50’s and 60’s especially the twist section and also ‘Then he Kissed Me’

With over 60 talented people on stage it is impossible to mention everyone, and I congratulate you all on some sterling performances.

Reg Pontling was played by William Heath, who led the company well.  He came over well and was very confident in the role.  Becky Cartwright played his daughter Mary, who sang really well.   Her love interest was entertainer Roger, played by Kieran Banner, who played the part well.  The second couple were made up of two of the entertainers, Matthew Windsor and Jessica Cavill as Pete and Bunty, again two very confident performers.

The costumes were cleverly thought out and matched the period in which the production was set.  The Pontling redcoats looked really good.  Costumes are always one of the hardest jobs to do but they looked great.

Well done to everyone at Spotlight and many thanks for your kind invite.  Karl and I look forward to seeing you all in panto in January.
