Poulton Drama have once again enhanced their reputation by producing a play of the highest quality. This version of Yes Prime Minister updated in 2010 is just as relevant in 2015. Director, Anthony P. Stone has gathered together a group of very versatile actors to interpret this very witty, well written piece by Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn. The whole action takes place in the Prime Minister’s study at Chequers, between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning and this passage of time was shown by some excellent lighting and sound effects. The solid looking, panelled set was very effective with appropriate furnishings and props. This production was notable for the fact that there were no weak links in the cast, all of whom worked so well as a team. Diction by all was first class, just occasionally more projection was required, especially in the first act. Such was the quality of the acting by all, I hesitate to mention anyone in particular but I feel Stuart Holden as Sir Humphrey and Anthony Henry as Jim Hacker were outstanding. Both actors never strayed from their characters and ensured that the pace never faltered. Stuart Holden’s delivery was first class and his delivery of the convoluting, meandering soliloquies deserved the applause he received after each one. This is a very wordy play but such was the expertise of those on stage, the evening flew by.A thoroughly enjoyable evening of “Theatre”. Thank you for the invitation. I look forward to Poulton’s next production.
