Yes, Prime Minister. I would say No, Prime Minister this is not what was ordered ? Opening night arrived and covid struck. Bernard Woolley, Private Secretary to the Prime Minister which was to be played by Ian Moss had to be replaced. In came the prompt Sue Twilley with the aid of the script. The character then became Bernice Woolley. To say Sue had never been on stage before. She did an admiral job. She looked the part and after a short time you forgot she had the script in her hand. Well done Sue !!
The set looked good and worked well and there were some very good characters in Jim Hacker, Prime Minister (Bryan Marwood), Claire Sutton, Adviser (Sue Dolby), Geraldine Burnham, BBC Director General (Marie Fletcher) and Kumranistan Ambassador (Chad Lyon). This is a very wordy play and everyone played their parts well. The stand-out character for me had to be Sir Humphrey Appleby, Cabinet Secretary played by John McKenzie. He looked the part and had great presence. His delivery and pace was outstanding and he was the lynch pin to all the actors on stage.
Well done to Chad Lyon for his direction of this play and thank you LTC for the invitation and an enjoyable evening.
