Gary made good use of the many facilities available at this theatre for this traditional production, with plenty of movement which was well organised, particularly with a full stage. On the musical side David matched this with good interpretation and control resulting in a great sound from the stage and the orchestra, particularly with the larger choral ensembles. On stage we had a strong team of principals who gave good performances both musically and dramatically, taking full advantage of the opportunities provided in this musical. In particular there were fine examples of interpretation in the ensembles with lovely controlled singing. Rhia Fingerhut was in fine voice as Elsie, particularly on the high notes required of the part and she interacted  well with Les Plimbley (Fairfax).  Jane Haywood gave a great performance playing Jack Point as a “breeches” part and being a very active jester! Another very good performance from James Davies as Sergeant Meryll and also Mike McGhee as Shadbolt nicely balanced and not overplayed. There was full support from the chorus throughout with great singing and all of the harmonies coming through. The costumes, including matching shoes, were very colourful on the ladies’ side, and the stage management was handled efficiently at all times. This was a very enjoyable production and good entertainment which was obviously approved by an appreciative audience.
