What an enjoyable evening we had watching an excellent piece of theater performed by the members of Wigan Little Theatre called “Audience with Murder” which was written by Roger Leach and Colin Wakefield. Directed expertly by Peter Hall, the play opens in the home of Sue and Alan where we see four actors from a local theatre group reading a brand new murder thriller script written by Sue, which she is hoping will be performed in the near future. Her husband Alan begins to realize that the script includes parallels to their own lives and to that of the other two actors at the reading which results in secrets getting out and arguments unfolding, meaning things begin to get out of control. However, things are not as they seam as this play has many layers to it’s plot and it had more than a few surprises and shocks in store for the audience, it also included a number of different genres in the story such as Murder Mystery, Thriller, Horror,  Psychological Thriller, and also some very good entertaining comedy. The pace of the play was just right and the cast of four very talented actors produced some very interesting and sometimes deep believable characters, they gave  superb strong performances all round, with very good diction, projection and spot on comic timing and they all made very good use of the stage area. These actors were ,Kath O’Leary as Sue, her husband Alan was played by Paul Dawson, with Stacey Vernon as Kelly and Andrew Blake as Dean, who worked together as a team with no weak links, this all resulted in a very successful production which was thoroughly enjoyed by the appreciative audience.

There was one well designed  and built static set representing a contemporary living room which was  dressed with applicable props and large pictures of iconic actors such as Maralyn Monroe on the walls, the actors were also supported by very good good technical input, and the costumes were suitable for the era and fitted the characters nicely, this all made an excellent platform for the actors to work on. The contribution of all backstage crew, workers, and set builders to the success of a production must never be underestimated.

Congratulations must go to all involved in bringing this outstanding production  of a play within a play to the stage, thank you very much for inviting us we had a really enjoyable evening. We look forward to seeing you for your next production.
