I have seen the famous film hundreds of times and personally played in the show, but I have never seen the panto version . . . until now! Though the company professes not to be a musical society, they put in a lot of hard work on the production. Adapted on the famous story, the panto opens with the nice friendly witch in the shape of panto dame Wavy Wanda (Donald Fraser). Looking like the three Witches from “Macbeth”, were the comedy duo of Wotchit and Witchit (Flora Lowry and Theresa Lynn) with Sharon Bennet in command as the nasty Evil Edna, desperate to get Dorothy’s red slippers. Playing the famous quartet were Ann Sutherland (an innocent Dorothy); Sarah Ramsay (an animated Scarecrow); Gareth Barton (a skilled Tin Man); and Gavin Barton (a hilariously funny and fabulous Cowardly Lion). Lizzie Ross supplied the Principal Boy love interest to the tale as Prince Boz of Oz, and the Mighty Wizard role was in the safe hands of Alan Hunter. Young Keiran Bole was splendid in his role as spotty dog Toto. There was lots of audience participation - with kids from the audience taking part on stage in the Olympics. (Well, it is panto time!) It was all huge fun and the kids certainly enjoyed every moment.
