As the song goes ‘There’s always a twist at the end’ and there certainly was from the production by Sutton Arts.
Leonard Vole has become friends with the rich Mrs. French and goes to visit her three or four times a week. But on one visit to Mrs. French she is found dead with Leonard Vole being the main suspect. The police are called and the case goes to court, where Sir Wilfrid Robarts QC tries to defend him but after damning evidence from Leonard’s wife Romaine and from Janet McKenzie, Mrs. French’s long serving housekeeper, things don’t look good for him. But after further investigation from his barrister the twist in the story comes to light as things don’t seem to be what you think. Is Romaine really Leonard’s wife?
Kieran Jenkins played the role of accused murderer Leonard Vole, he gave a wonderful interpretation of the confused accused. His hesitation was really well acted out. Romaine, his so called wife, was played by Laura Hinton who was great for this role. Her accent never faulted and she gave a killer punch at the end of the play. Janet McKenzie, Mrs. French’s housekeeper was played by Liz Berriman, who gave a superb performance and just seemed to slot into the role. Dan Payne gave a strong performance as the defence Councillor Sir Wilfrid Robarts QC as did Alan Groucott as the prosecutor Mr. Myers QC. Great support came from the remainder of the cast who stayed in character throughout.
The set designers and builders at Sutton Arts Theatre did their usual great job and the costumes looked really good from the audiences point to view.
Dexter Whitehead should be proud of this sell out production.
Congratulations to everyone involved and I look forward to your next production.
