This was an evening of first class entertainment, where amateur didn’t seem the right word. The set was impressive and it is always helpful, and makes for a seamless production, not to have to change it except for a few props here and there. The lighting was sympathetic to the set although in some places it could have done with a tad more brightness; I understand that the atmosphere for this musical had to be created, but the actors did that. The casting was excellent and not one character was out of place. The singing was superb I especially liked 'Dirty Laundry', 'Dance With The Devil', 'Waiting for the Music to begin' and so many more.
On the night I attended there were a few technical hitches; Jane Smart couldn’t take off to fly with the other two, but Darryl covered it well. The mics were playing up a bit at one point, but it did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the show.
There are too many characters to mention however I must acknowledge Lance Vernon who put everything into his role, a professional performance and should seriously consider a career on the professional stage. Wonderful performances from the three leading ladies, Emma Bateman, Nicky Sweetland and Jo Killoran and of course I must mention Rachel Hiland who obviously relished this delicious role as Felicia, giving her full scope to portray this awful character so well. The two young innocents, Jennifer and Michael were beautifully portrayed, staying just outside (and seemingly oblivious) of the demonic goings-on in their families. My congratulations to all the other characters and chorus who put everything into it.
The orchestra did a great job under the baton of Angela Blackwell and my heartfelt congratulations to David Youll who never disappoints in the productions he is connected with.
To sum up, I could have seen it all over again.
