This is a relativity new musical and one that has the added complication of flying, not one but 3 people!
“Witches” is set in a sleepy New England town in the 1950’s . The community is joined together behind Felicia Gabriel, except three ladies, Sukie Rougemont, Alexandra Spofford and Jane Smart who yearn for more from their lives. They get more than they bargained for when somehow they summon Darryl Van Horne. They and the town will never be the same again.
The scene and the level of the performance is set in the first number. The stage fills with colour, harmony and a well choreographed and executed dance routine. Throughout the show the company perform some brilliant dance routines, “Darryl Van Horne” where the character of the same name arrives and controls the town is particularly impressive.
Craig Garner shows the different sides to Darryl, he has the right level of charm, sauce and sleeze. Alexandra (Lucy Rushton) Jane (Claire Tyler) and Sukie (Gracey Spring) are a perfect trio, their voices combining to beautiful effect in the song “I wish I may”. Each has got their character to a ”T”. Although not a huge part, Starr Lydster-Cochrane makes an impression as Jennifer Gabriel.
This was a polished production in every aspect. Everything together combined to make a wonderful evenings entertainment.
