Not always to everyone’s taste this show continues to attract audiences and no wonder when the overall production quality is of a high standard as with this one.

A freeze-frame start followed by a simulated rainstorm gave every indication this was to be a production to be enjoyed. On a simple yet creative set a range of carefully selected props, clever and highly effective sound effects and lighting provided an excellent backcloth to the plot and storyline.

The accomplished ensemble reflected well the choreography and stage movement and supported most ably a very good principal line up with all portraying their characters with definitive story telling ability. All also doing full justice to a likeable musical score which although does not include many well-known songs helps this show move along with pace.

In the corrupting role of “ Daryll Van Horne” Will Wood produced an exceptional performance of in-depth stagecraft, body language and vocal power portraying levels of aggression, charm and sinister qualities that are the hallmark of the character.

The three witches - Tracey Brough as “Alexandra Spofford”, Katie Phizacklea as “Jane Smart” and Jessica Smith playing “Sukie Rougemont” delivered performances of great character demonstrating well the effects of their fate at the hands of “ Darryl”. Individually their voices were delightful and in glorious harmony in duets and trios.

Jane Steed playing “Felecia Gabriel”, Hannah Morris as “Jennifer Gabriel” and Sam Parton in the role of “Michael Spofford” all performed vocally and in character with passion and conviction.

The flying scene at the end of Act 1 was executed in a highly accomplished manner, just one element of many inspired and carefully choreographed scenes in which the ensemble and principals throughout the production delivered superb performances making the most of the extensive stage. Stylish costumes of colour and imagination enhanced the whole production.
This was a highly entertaining production which clearly the audience enjoyed immensely and well done to all involved
