Harmonious Holiday Elegance: Tayside Opera's Winter Concert

In the picturesque setting of Dundee West Church, Tayside Opera's Winter Concert, held on Friday, December 8th, unfolded as a captivating vocal journey under the expert guidance of accompanist Robert Duncan and musical director Richard Johnstone. The evening, adorned with a variety of musical gems, showcased the ensemble's impressive vocal prowess, setting a festive tone that resonated with the Christmas spirit. The concert opened with a vocal kaleidoscope featuring timeless classics such as "Still Still Still," "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," and the jubilant "Jubilate Deo." The meticulous interplay between Robert Duncan's skillful accompaniment and Richard Johnstone's direction provided a harmonious foundation for the entire performance. Solos from various cast members added depth and variety to the repertoire and brought a touch of classic musical theatre to the program with  Euan Smith's rendition of "Bring Him Home", and Kirsty McRobbie's rendition of "If I Loved You" while Susan Jenkin's ethereal performance of "I’m Walking in the Air" transported the audience into a winter wonderland. Moira Docherty's emotive delivery of "Dove Sono" and "Mid-Winter" evoked a sense of seasonal nostalgia, while Brian Boardman's enthusiastic portrayal in "A Christmas Carol" added a narrative richness to the evening.

The concert reached a crescendo with the lively "The Rhythm of Life," infusing the atmosphere with energy and enthusiasm. The carefully curated selection of pieces showcased the versatility of Tayside Opera's performers and their ability to traverse different genres with finesse. A beautiful night of entertainment that skilfully blended the traditional and the contemporary. A memorable enchanting and uplifting experience, ushering the audience into the Christmas spirit.
